Blindsketch.com is a modern take on the classic art school drawing exercise: draw a picture without looking at it. This simple restriction creates an art-making platform that renders skill-level less relevant, creating a format where everyone can exist on a similar plane. The uniform black lines resemble idle nervous doodles, but taken as an aggregate, the drawings become expressive and iconic in their simplicity.
Like many of my projects, blindsketch is iterative, mutable, and site-specific. It exists as a website and mobile app with daily challenges. It has been installed with iPads as a still life drawing workshop. It was used to create individualized art prints for the medium cool art book fair. It was used to solicit live reactions during screening events (displayed like popups on the screen).
